Why should I earn my graduate degree at OBU Graduate School?

Three reasons: 1) Reputation: Oklahoma Baptist University is repeatedly recognized as the state’s top ranked regional university (19 consecutive years). If you are going to earn your graduate degree, you should consider the reputation of the university from where it is earned. 2) Convenience: OBU Graduate School was designed with the working adult in mind. You can manage your current responsibilities AND handle your graduate studies at the same time. 3) Practicality: We are interested in YOU. Your professors seek to teach material in such a way that you are able to apply lessons learned the next day. Projects can also be developed around topics which interest you.

How can I fit a rigorous graduate program into my professional and personal schedules?

The graduate programs at OBU Graduate School are designed for busy, working professionals. Classes meet one night a week and an occasional Saturday in some courses. Students find this to be a very manageable schedule which allows them to concentrate on only one or two courses at a time. Located in northwest Oklahoma City, OBU Graduate School is a comfortable facility near I-44 and Lake Hefner Parkway. We have plenty of parking which is easily and quickly accessible for working professionals.

What are the qualifications of the instructors?

All instructors at OBU Graduate School are academically qualified and have real-world experience that combine to offer a practical approach to professional training.

How much will it cost to earn my graduate degree?

Tuition is an affordable $450 per credit hour. For example, tuition for a 3-credit hour, 6 week course, is $1350. Textbooks are an additional expense and are available through the OBU bookstore.

For MBA students, an investment in an MBA degree offers returns estimated to be between 30 and 150% in increased earnings potential. The intangible benefit of clarity and depth of thinking skills, gained through an excellent MBA education, are invaluable.

Many employers offer tuition reimbursement benefit plans and graduate student financial aid is available through the Federal Stafford Loan and the Plus Loan programs. To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Use the OBU school code 003164.

An investment of your time will also be required – one night a week and an occasional Saturday per 6- or 12-week course, in addition to study time. Each potential student should carefully evaluate his/her priorities and assess costs and benefits before applying to the program.

How do I apply for admission to the OBU Graduate School?

It is easy to apply online or download the application for printing. Applicants must also submit additional materials including:

  • A current resume
  • Four Question Statement of Purpose
  • Recommendation Forms (MBA/MSN, 2 forms; MFT, 3 forms)
  • Official transcripts ( sent directly to the Graduate School from the granting institution)
  • Standardized Test Scores
    • MBA: GMAT scores (Students starting coursework before August 6, 2013 must take the test within four (4) months of beginning class; University policy will change on August 6, 2013 and applicants will be required to submit a test score prior to review of application)
    • MSN: MAT score
    • MFT: GRE scores
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for international students only)
  • Financial Guarantee Forms Part 1 and Part 2 (international students)

How will international business studies (MBA) impact my career?

The 21st century economy is a global one. As part of the MBA degree program at OBU Graduate School, an international educational travel experience is included in the cost of the program. With this enhanced global perspective, students learn to approach business – both domestic and international – with foresight and vision.

Does OBU Graduate School offer an online MBA degree program?

Yes! OBU Graduate School works in concert with Vertical Learning Curve, a web-based virtual-reality business training organization, to offer students the opportunity to earn a master of business administration degree in a unique online environment.

Accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the online MBA degree program places students in a virtual internship position with an Oklahoma-based company. Students gain hands-on experience and education in a virtual world filled with real-time deadlines, realistic co-workers and real-world obstacles.

The virtual-reality program is designed to fit conveniently into any schedule, allowing students two to three years to complete the self-paced program. Is OBU’s MBA degree program accredited?

Oklahoma Baptist University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) and approved to award a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Nursing degree through the OBU Graduate School.

Are there pre-requisites for entering the MBA program?

If an applicants do not have a business degree, they must demonstrate competency in four basic areas: financial accounting, corporate finance, economics, and business math/statistics. Applicants may demonstrate such competency through undergraduate course work, passing the appropriate College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) or passing the appropriate Ivy Software examination (Pre-Course Assessment or Post Course Exam).

MSN

How long will it take to earn my MSN degree?

Classes meet one night per week from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and one Saturday per course, approximately every six weeks. The night of the week stays the same throughout the program for a given cohort of students. The program is designed to be completed with 18 months in class, not counting several breaks built into the program.

What are the admission requirements to the MSN degree program?

Applicants must have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a program accredited by a nationally recognized nursing accrediting body with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Successful completion of a basic statistics course is a pre-requisite for enrollment in the MSN degree program.

Applicants must also possess a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the United States. Two years full-time work experience as a registered nurse is preferred. Exceptional students with less work experience may be considered on a space-available basis.

Is the MSN degree program at OBU Graduate School accredited?

What is the Miller Analogies Test (MAT)?

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is the required graduate level assessment used by OBU Graduate School for applicants to the MSN degree program. The MAT measures academic readiness for graduate-level coursework. Currently, there is no minimum score required by OBU Graduate School, but applicants are required to take the MAT prior to admission into the program. Why are the MFT classes scheduled in Shawnee?

The nature of the MFT program and the resources that are available on the main OBU campus in Shawnee led us to have classes in Shawnee. There may be some classes that are scheduled for the Oklahoma City campus in the future, but for right now, classes will be scheduled for Shawnee.

What are the pass rates for licensure for MFT graduates from OBU?

When the MFT degree was being offered previously, there was a near 100% pass rate on the first attempt for licensure for OBU MFT graduates. This program is very strong in its ability to prepare you for licensure.
